Company
Brockhaus Umwelt is a full-service provider for exhaust air and wastewater treatment plants in the chemical and petrochemical industries. The portfolio ranges from stationary plant construction to mobile and temporary solutions for unplanned and planned plant shutdowns.

Initial situation
In process engineering, the Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) is the central document for planning and operating process plants. Today’s work environment demands quick access to the information and requires short-term adaptations of the project documents in case of changes in the scope of services.

Brockhaus Umwelt’s goal is to provide customers with comprehensive support during the introduction and operation of mobile vacuum truck exhaust air purification systems and to promote sustainable customer loyalty.

“Efficient creation of functional and database-supported P&IDs ensures greater efficiency and higher project quality.”

Solution
PlantEngineer P&ID software supports users from initial specification through user training to acceptance by plant safety and auditing teams. The basic design is customized. Additional gas sensors can be integrated or larger adsorbers can be connected. The shortest possible delivery times result in tight scheduling without compromising quality. Drawings are quickly derived from the basic system, and the user adapts metadata and title block information in just a few steps.

“Checking can be carried out quickly and the information is transferred seamlessly to the design department. The P&ID serves as the starting document for the entire manufacturing process and is also an accompanying document for plant safety.”

Benefit
The Microsoft Visio-based software is intuitive to use and quick to learn, even without prior CAD knowledge, thanks to its Microsoft Office interface. Symbols according to industry standards such as DIN 28000, DIN EN ISO 10628 and DIN 2429 as well as customer-specific symbols make flexible drawing possible. By consistently adding up-to-date component data, plant documentation, parts lists and specification sheets are created in Microsoft Excel or Word at the touch of a button.

“In the future, P&IDs can be supplemented with information of a technical and commercial nature directly from the central data warehouse. This ensures transparent processes and better data consistency. After completion and delivery of the plant, we permanently use the P&ID as the most important lifecycle document for risk assessment, HAZOP and the operating phase.”
